Larry Strawther has been writing professionally for over forty years for newspapers, movies and television. His writing and producing credits include the television classics Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley and Night Court; the cult comedy hit MXC (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge), the Merv Griffin Show and even being the head writer on Jeopardy! in the late 1970s, and writing jokes for Bob Hope and Rich Little. He has also written for movies (Without a Clue, Mighty Ducks). Prior to moving to Los Angeles, he was also a sportswriter in the San Francisco Bay Area, and spent a few years traveling the country playing piano in an oldies band that used to open for the likes of the Doobie Brothers, Tower of Power, Boz Scaggs, Elvin Bishop, Pablo Cruise, the Pointer Sisters, Huey Lewis, and others. (He also played piano for Chuck Berry in a concert at the Monterey Fairgrounds.)
In recent years, he has indulged his lifelong interest in our very unique local history by writing three books on the histories of Los Alamitos & Rossmoor, Seal Beach, and the Old Ranch Country Club. He also wrote numerous articles on Seal Beach history for the Sun, and much of the historical text for the 2015 Seal Beach Centennial book. (He also conducted multiple historical walk tours during that year.)
Larry and his wife Nancy also helped create and still oversee the very popular Taste for Los Al which since 2001 has raised over $4 million for Los Alamitos HS activities by featuring the food of over 35 local restaurants each year.
Larry and Nancy still reside in Rossmoor where she grew up, and where they raised their three children, Megan, Michael and Mallory.
